Cedar River Trail
We’ve been doing this trail for years, accessing it at a few different points (see below) along the river. The trail is actually over 17 miles long, extending all the way to the small town of Landsburg near Maple Valley. The sections we’ve done are on the other end of the trail near where the Cedar River spills into Lake Washington.
Some sectiona of the trail are pretty urban, especially in the fall and winter when the leaf-less trees make apartment complexes across the river feel very near. You can also hear the cars rushing along Maple Valley highway in various places. But its still a nice trail to explore in a wheelchair.
Key stats:
Distance: 17.4 miles from Landsburg to the mouth of the Cedar River in Renton. The section we’ve mostly done starts near the Cedar River dog park and goes a little over a mile to a bridge over the river near Mapleview Roadside Park.
Wheelchair accessible parking? Depends. There is a small parking lot across the tracks from the Renton library with a number of spots, but none of them explicitly wheelchair accessible. At Riverview Park there are wheelchair accessible spots right near the bridge that goes across the river and meets up with the trail.
Wheelchair accessible bathrooms? No
Trail condition? Very wide, paved trail with no hills.
Highlights? Lucas says, “Smooth… so smooth. Clear, straight roll. It goes right along the river which is pretty nice. However… DO NOT SPEED TOO FAST IN YOUR WHEELCHAIR OR ELSE THE PARSEC POLICE WILL GET YOU!”
