Luther Burbank Park
Lucas has a good buddy who lives in Mercer Island so we often meet him at Luther Burbank — a great accessible park that’s actually quite easy to get to from Seattle. The playground is a favorite of Ida’s and also has some accessible features (though the merry-go-round that you could roll onto in a wheelchair has been removed, likely for safety reasons.)
There’s not a lot of shade in the park so it can be tough on hot days.
Key stats:
Distance: Maybe as much as a mile of accessible trails throughout the park. See map linked to below.
Wheelchair accessible parking? Yes
Wheelchair accessible bathrooms? Yes
Trail condition? There are paved trails — and some dirt ones — throughout the park, and even a short boardwalk. The paved trails are smooth though a bit steep in spots, and a bit narrow in other places.
Highlights?
The views of Lake Washington are amazing, and there’s a spot at the north end of the park where you can sit and watch the waves. There’s also a lower trail on the east side of the park that connects to a dock and can get you out over the lake in a wheelchair. The aforementioned playground is also a highlight if you’re traveling with little kids.
