Golden Gardens
Golden Gardens is a beautiful park in Northwest Seattle, but we didn’t realize until exploring the park in the fall of 2021 that there are actually some good wheelchair accessible trails there.
The park is very popular so can get quite crowded on sunny days. There are lots of benches and picnic tables so its a good place to just go and hang out (since the accessible trails aren’t that extensive.)
Key stats:
Distance: Probably 1/2 mile to a mile of flat, accessible trails throughout the park.
Wheelchair accessible parking? Yes, many. Improvements were made in 2019 to make the parking lots (and some of the trails) more wheelchair accessible.
Wheelchair accessible bathrooms? Yes
Trail condition? There are a variety of trails, some paved and some hard packed gravel.
Highlights?
There’s a dock on the south edge of the park — near the beginning of the Burke Gilman Trail — that you can go out on with nice views of the sound. Even better is the short bridge on the north end of the park that straddles a duck pond (pictured below). If you go past the end of the bridge the path will take you right up to the edge of the beach. Also, Golden Gardens is know for its spectacular sunsets which we were lucky to see the day we were there.
