Marymere Falls Trail (Lake Crescent)
Marymere Falls is a spectacular trail in the Olympic National Park on the edge of Lake Crescent. The trail starts at the Storm King Ranger Station, winding down near the lake and then passing under the roadway via a narrow tunnel (one drawback is that the first half of the trail parallels the road so you can hear cars zooming by, making it feel less remote.)
After a hill the trail widens and you enter into the large, old grown Douglas fir and ceder trees. About a half mile in there’s a great lookout over Barnes Creek. If you go much further the trail gets steep with steps and is no longer accessible.
Key stats:
Distance: About 1 mile of accessible trail (round trip) — 1.5 miles if you go all the way to the falls.
Wheelchair accessible parking? Yes (various spots in the Ranger Station parking lot)
Wheelchair accessible bathrooms? Yes
Trail condition? Well maintained, hard-packed gravel. Wide in most spots with a few narrow sections. One relatively steep hill in the first 100 yards of the trail.
Highlights? Huge, old-growth, Douglas fir trees and a brilliant, mossy forest canopy. Also views of the lake in the first part of the hike.
