Sammamish River Trail
This one came through a recommendation via our online form (thanks Aimee!) It’s a trail along the Sammamish River that stretches from Bothell to Redmond and is maintained by King County. As their website says, “the trail offers extraordinary views of the river, the broad Sammamish River Valley, Cascade foothills and Mt. Rainier.”
You can enter the trail at various different spots; we parked at Sammamish River Trail Parking off NE 116th St and went south from there.
Key stats:
Distance: 10.1 miles long; the section we did from the parking area linked above to the bridge across the river was about 1 mile.
Wheelchair accessible parking? Yes. Also supposedly there is accessible parking and access at Wilmot Park and Redmond City Hall.
Wheelchair accessible bathrooms? Yes
Trail condition? The trail is paved, smooth and flat. On the far side of the river there is a parallel trail that is gravel. The King county website notes that, “the trail is ADA accessible except for two short sections that have grades below standards (one located just east of 96th Ave NE in Bothell, and the other located just north of NE 145th St.)”
Highlights? Lucas was going through his Star Wars phase on the day we did this trail so we sped into hyperspeed like the Millennium Falcon, attempting to take the trail (like Han Solo did the Kessel Run) in less than 12 Parsecs. The flat, smooth pavement made our run successful!
