Soos Creek Trail
We’ve been exploring wheelchair accessible trails in Western Washington for 7 or 8 years (but especially over the last year) and somehow in that time we never ended up at Soos Creek Trail… until a sunny, late March day in 2021. It’s a great trail — suburban and yet has the feeling of being out in the wilderness — with lots of walkers and bikers, but feels especially well suited for wheelchair explorers.
We entered the trail going south from Gary Grant Soos Creek Park which is near the city of Kent off SE 208th St. It looks like there are various other access point along the trail as well.
According to Lucas, “We saw cool stuff that we don’t usually see on trails, like bat boxes and interesting plants like skunk cabbage. And lots of ducks!”
Key stats:
Distance: The trail is 6 miles long.
Wheelchair accessible parking? Yes
Wheelchair accessible bathrooms? No
Trail condition? Wide, paved, smooth. Supposedly there are some sections that get a little steep but other than going up and down over a bridge (see picture below) it was almost completely flat for us.
Highlights? The ducks! The birds! The skunk cabbage and other interesting vegetation in and around the marsh.
