West Fenwick Park/Lake Fenwick (Kent)
West Fenwick Park and Lake Fenwick park are two adjacent and connected parks in the city of Kent. We found about about West Fenwick because in 2021 they opened a new accessible playground complete with a life-sized Chutes and Ladders that you can do in a wheelchair. Lucas enjoyed the playground (as did his sister) and we also did a full loop around the park, including going up a steep (but paved) hill that afforded a great view overlooking the park.
We then moved on to Lake Fenwick which has a trail with a boardwalk that extends over the lake. There’s not that much ground to cover but it was still fun to find a new accessible park area not far from Seattle
Key stats:
Distance: The loop around West Fenwick is about 1/2 mile. The Lake Fenwick trail is supposedly 2.7 miles but only a portion of it are wheelchair acessible
Wheelchair accessible parking? Yes
Wheelchair accessible bathrooms? Yes, at West Fenwick
Trail condition? The loop trail around West Fenwick is mostly paved. The Lake Fenwick trail is gravel with a new, very wide and smooth boardwalk.
Highlights? The playground is great if you’re there with kids. The boardwalk at Lake Fenwick is also a highlight — it’s always cool for Lucas to be able to roll in his wheelchair out over water. And there are lots of birds and frogs and probably other wildlife.
