Price Sculpture Forest (Coupeville)
Lucas writes:
“Recently we went to the new sculpture forest on Whidbey Island. I would recommend this trail if you are okay with bumpy, steep, hilly trails, but if flat and paved is your style I wouldn’t recommend it as much.”
The sculpture forest just opened to the public in October 2020. Lucas’s grandparents live nearby in Greenbank so we joined them for the loop and were pleasantly surprised.
The entrance is about a mile and a half east of downtown Coupeville.
Key stats:
Distance: The upper loop less than a half mile; the lower loop is a little shorter.
Wheelchair accessible parking? Yes
Wheelchair accessible bathrooms? No
Trail condition? The trail is dirt and gravel. The upper loop and is relatively flat and easy to traverse in a wheelchair. The lower loop gets quite steep. We pulled it off with Lucas but you should refer to Lucas’s recommendation at the beginning of the post if you want to see what he thought about it. Of course, if we hadn’t done the lower loop we wouldn’t have been able to see the T-rex!
Highlights?
The sculptures, of course. Some of them are quite amazing — nature-inspired on the top part, more whimsical in the lower loop. Our favorites were the aforementioned dinosaur and the fallen tree that is carved up into small blocks. It seems they will rotate so by the time you read this there might be a whole new set of sculptures. Also, you can take a self-guided tour using you cell phone and a QR code at the beginning of the trail.
