Seahurst Park (Burien)
The trail isn’t too long but this is a really pretty spot right on the Puget Sound in Burien. There’s also a playground and some great beach exploring — which our 5-year enjoyed while we checked out the wheelchair accessible areas with Lucas.
We started out in the lower parking lot near the play area and walked along the gravel Seahurst Park Road, which is not open to vehicles and thus serves as a wide path.
Key stats:
Distance: Probably 1/2 of a mile if you go north along Seahurst Park road past the Marine Technology Lab and onto the Service road. The trail then gets steep as it weaves through the woods until eventually connecting up to a residential road. You can also go south from the parking lot, though on the day we did that segment the trail got too muddy to maneuver in a wheelchair after a couple hundred yards.
Wheelchair accessible parking? Yes, multiple spots in the lower parking lot
Wheelchair accessible bathrooms? Yes
Trail condition? Very wide, hard-packed gravel. The gravel gets a little bumpy in spots, and there’s a pretty steep hill once you hit the service road. Also, there can be big puddles and mud on rainy days.
Highlights? The views of the beach, Puget Sound, and Olympic mountains in the distance.
