Seaquest State Park (Silver Lake)
Some years ago we were driving back from Portland to Seattle after spending Christmas with family. At that time a 3 or 4 hour drive was tough for Lucas in his wheelchair so we looked for a place to stop and spend the night half way… and that’s how we stumbled upon the amazing boardwalk trail at Seaquest State Park.
We stayed at a nearly empty Silver Lake Resort and early the next morning set out to explore the nearby state park. And what an amazing experience it was. With cold mist coming off the lake, and with the sun rising and fighting through the fog, we rolled along the extensive boardwalk and relevant at the quiet, serene beauty of this place. It will go down as one of our most memorable wheelchair accessible walks of all time.
Key stats:
Distance: The 1 mile long loop trail starts from the Seaquest State Park Visitors Center
Wheelchair accessible parking? Yes
Wheelchair accessible bathrooms? Yes
Trail condition? Short, switchback gravel trail down to the lake; then most of the trail is boardwalk.
Highlights? There aren’t many places that we know of where you can roll a wheelchair over natural wetlands like this, and the view of Mount St. Helens from the boardwalk is spectacular. Their are also tons of birds and potential for other wildlife.
